What’s In Season For October?

It’s that time of year again! We get to cozy up to the fire and enjoy all the delicious food that fall
has to offer. This season is all about keeping warm with some hot soups, beautiful squash dishes, and
pumpkin everything! This October, we are bringing you tastier zero-waste recipes that will help you ring in the season and help save the planet. These recipes are guaranteed to please you and your guests during your holiday party. We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed creating them for you.

Why is it delicious?
Pumpkin seeds are packed with healthy fats, protein, and micro-nutrients. With a few extra ingredients, roasted pumpkin seeds make a great snack for everyone!

Why is it Zero Food Waste?
Fall gives us an abundance of pumpkins. While our kids are carving out the inside to make artwork, we take them and make pumpkin pie! Unfortunately, the seeds are often left behind and tossed in the trash. We are here to tell you that those are edible too!

Food storage tip: Roasted pumpkin seeds can be stored in an airtight container for about two weeks. If you want to save them longer, their shelf life lasts up to two months in the fridge!

Apple pies are a fall staple, but most of us don’t have time to bake a whole pie! Not to mention the baking skills! We came up with an easy way to use whatever you have in your kitchen to get that same apple pie taste! This cinnamon apple granola will satisfy your cravings and can be added to your favorite sweet treats like yogurt or vanilla bean ice cream.

What makes this recipe zero waste?
This helps preserve apples for a longer time. 

Food storage tip: You can freeze granola! Make sure your granola is completely cooled before putting it in an airtight container. Then put it in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Most people see squash at the grocery store and get intimidated because of its size and shape. They might wonder what to do with it. Luckily, we are here to tell you there are so many ways to cook butternut squash. The easiest and most delicious way is to make it into a creamy soup!

Food storage tip:  Store your butternut squashes whole at room temperature, in a cool, dark place. Once cut, store in the fridge.
